Director of Ecology to Speak About Plans for the City
In what might be his first public forum since taking office (certainly the first before the foreign community), Helio Bastien Partida, San Miguel's new Director of the Department of Environment and Ecology, will appear at the Biblioteca's Santa Ana Theatre on Tuesday, December 8th at 3 pm. Senor Bastien Partida will be speaking under the auspices of Audubon Mexico, at its regular monthly presentation.
According to his office, Bastien is delighted take the opportunity to 'speak about the plans this department has for the city.' The presentation on the 8th will be an 'overview of the various plans and projects the ecology department will be undertaking.' Most San Miguelians will find this a lecture not to be missed.
As reported earlier in Atencion by Jesus Ibarra, the new director has three main goals, 'to make San Miguel 'greener,' to reach out with ecological and environmental education, and to focus on water conservation.' Bastien is determined to make the Green Fund (fondo verde) even more effective, by adding more citizens to the committee in charge, and he is very aware of how important PEASMA and CASA are to environmental education in the schools.
Helio Bastien Partida is an agronomist from the Instituto Tecnológico Agropecuario of Morelia, Michoacán. He has worked as a farm administrator, a botanical researcher for the New York Botanical Gardens, for Shaman Pharmaceuticals, and as a councilor at El Charco del Ingenio.
Admission to the presentation at the Santa Ana on Tuesday, December 8, at 3 pm is free to Audubon members. Others pay 60 pesos at the door, or may join Audubon for an entire year for $30 USD or 400 pesos, thus gaining free entrance to this and many other Audubon events.
