Every First and Third Wednesday of the Month
Signe Hammer will be leading bird walks in El Charco on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Signe began birding in NYC's Central Park in 1996, when she began following the famous Red-tailed Hawk Pale Male and his offspring. That led to a fascination with the resident songbirds and the many migrants that pass through the city's parks, including Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.
The walks are for birders of all levels. They begin at 9:00 a.m. and will last about 2 1/2 hours. No reservations needed, and feel free to leave the walk at any time. Please bring binoculars, wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat, and bring water. There will be instruction on the proper use of binoculars and other tips on good birding techniques. Signe will meet you after you pass through the Reception area of the Botanical Garden. Cost: 60 pesos for members of either El Charco or Audubon, 100 pesos for non-members of either organization (includes El Charco entrance fee).
