The Ex-Hacienda La Petaca project aspires to provide the local community, La Cuadrilla, with modern technologies while encouraging and maintaining local cultural knowledge, technologies, and arts. It includes cultivation of food, preservation of water, a search for alternative energy sources, and restoration of the river and the surrounding land. In addition to soil rehabilitation, vermicomposting, rain water harvesting and other environmentally friendly techniques, they are investigating the possibility of using a poultry methane digester at the adjacent Bachoco farm.
